Head of IT and Change – Core Platforms

Brightwater Executive is delighted to be retained exclusively on this newly created role for a Head of IT and Change – Core Platforms. Joining a well-recognised global insurance company, this role will be reporting into the Chief Information Officer.

Key Responsibilities
Leading our a sizeable team of 40 + developers (front and back-end development teams) this person will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the department and the implementation of technology solutions to support their operations and continued growth in the Irish market. This person will work closely with key senior stakeholders of their business, across their customer products, operations, new business / pricing team etc.

This is a transformational role with strong CapEx commitment to drive forward their future IT Estate to deliver on the company’s ambitious business strategy.

  • Leading out multiple and dispersed software delivery teams, the ideal candidate must demonstrate a passion for collaboratively creating a better experience for their end customers through understanding the business landscape and delivering strategic solutions.
  • Definition and alignment of the vision, strategy, and roadmap to deliver on business strategy will be key to the success for this role.
  • Drive performance improvements within the development teams, whilst aligning with their global and internal partners. Enable and continued culture of improvement, delivering strong succession plans, focusing on talent retention and diversification into the team.
  • Demonstrate scalable improvements and creating experts in the DevOps teams, who feel true ownership for their functional areas
  • Build and maximise the potential of existing strategic technical partnerships, ensure operational efficiencies are realised by increasing digital capabilities, process improvement, that in turn make things simpler for their end B2B and B2C customers and enable their internal cross functional teams to accelerate their growth plans and ambitious through a best in class IT Estate.
  • Maximise return on investment and quality across external partners in vendor management and central tech
  • Drive performance improvements within the development teams, whilst aligning with their global and internal partners. Enable and continued culture of improvement, delivering strong succession plans, focusing on talent retention and diversification into the team.
  • Demonstrate scalable improvements and creating experts in the DevOps teams, who feel true ownership for their functional areas
  • Cultivating a high impact, learning-oriented and collaborative culture. Fostering a team culture that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion. Driving creation of cross-team best practices.
  • Simplify, automate and improve operational processes through new tooling, third-party platform integrations, and architecture improvements driving efficiency for the organisation
  • Driving a modernisation strategy for their current and future IT estate.
  • Oversee the applications portfolio, initiating and implementing needed changes.
  • Define and monitor the company and development team’s divisional and relevant KPIs and controls and measures to achieve the objectives set.

Experience/Requirements
  • Possess a broad skillset, qualifications in a computer engineering background with strong team leadership, vendor management, stakeholder management and negotiating skills.
  • Strong understanding in fundamental design principles for building scalable platforms
  • Experience in complex, large scale platform migrations and large-scale modernisation
  • A strong leader that has demonstrated proficiencies in all of the key areas of software development.
  • Excellent judgement, decision making and communication skills.
  • Have a passion for clean, maintainable code. Creating nimble re-usable services.
  • Solid experience in DevOps and agile software delivery environment, ideally have realised the benefits of cloud technology.
  • Adept in enabling and improve service delivery environment.
  • Experience managing cyber vulnerabilities in applications and building improvements through actionable insights.
  • Experience in Operational Resilience.
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous environment at times.
  • Proven track record in taking ownership, driving results and moving with speed to implement ideas in a fast.
  • Build positive, lasting relationships internally and externally
